JAMAICA: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. Sheldon Cottrell, Roston Chase and Shimron Hetmyer, who could not play against Sri Lanka earlier this year due to failing fitness levels, have returned.

Remember that this is the same Sheldon Cottrell, in whose over in IPL 2020, Rahul Tewatia of Rajasthan Royals won the team by hitting five consecutive sixes. Cottrell was then representing Punjab.

Kevin Sinclair and Kyle Meyers could not save their place. Sinclair had an impressive performance in the T20I series against South Africa. Kyle Meyers will now represent Birmingham Bears in T20 Blast. 24-year-old fast bowler Anderson Phillip has managed to retain his place. Chief selector Roger Harper said, “This team registered a strong win over Sri Lanka, which must have boosted their confidence. Against Australia though, the players will be tested.

He further said, ‘Caribbean players will get the benefit of playing in home conditions and hopefully they will continue to perform better. The ODI series against Australia will be part of the ICC Cricket World Cup qualification process, where each match and every point will be accounted for. So it is important.

The ODI squad of West Indies is as follows:

Kieron Pollard (c), Shai Hope (vc), Fabian Allen, Darren Bravo, Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akil Hossain, Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Anderson Phillip, Nicholas Pooran, Romario Shepherd.

The ODI series between Australia and West Indies will start from July 20. All three matches of the series will be played in Barbados. If these matches will be played under the ICC World Cup Super League, then every match will have importance. In the ODI rankings, Australia is second while West Indies is at the eighth position.
