Union Cabinet has approved the free ration distribution scheme announced by Narendra Modi

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the free ration distribution scheme announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Union Cabinet has agreed to extend Prime Minister Garib Kalyan’s plan for a further five months from July to November.

Under this scheme, 81.35 crore beneficiaries of eligible families will get foodgrains. The plan was initially implemented for three months in April, May and June. The Prime Minister had just announced a few days ago about extending the plan again for a period of five months. The proposal has now been approved by the Union Cabinet.

The central government will spend ₹ 67,266.44 crore to implement this project. Under the scheme, the states would get 204 lakh metric tonnes of foodgrains, the central food ministry said.

Another important decision has been made by the Union Cabinet. Accordingly, the Central Cabinet has decided to merge Central Railside Warehouse Company with Central Warehousing Corporation. MINISUM GOVERNMENT – The announcement of the merger decision has been made with the intent of implementing the declaration of the Maximum Government.

It is estimated that maintenance costs will decrease by over ₹ 5 crore after the merger. The move will benefit the construction of 50 more rail side warehouses, the release said.
