DELHI: Women’s cricket has now started appearing in the headlines in India too. But the team is not getting those results yet, so that it can quickly attract the trend of the fans. Former India wicket-keeper batsman Saba Karim has spoken of a more professional approach to further improve the standard of women’s cricket. At the same time, he said that its planning needs to be made completely different from men’s cricket.

At present, the women’s Indian team is on a tour of England under the leadership of Mithali Raj. After this, the team also has to go on a tour of Australia in September this year. Former Indian women’s cricket head Karim told Cricinfo, “It’s a good start but it still needs a solid plan and a different plan than the men’s team, so that we can take it fast.

Karim said, ‘I believe that we need to be more professional and there is a need to make a different plan for the development of women’s cricket than men’s cricket.

“There should be a separate plan, a creative plan with a lot of outreach programmes,” he said. Karim said that Mithali, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Jhulan Goswami may have earned a name in international cricket. But still many girls in India are not choosing this sport.

He said, ‘There are still many girls not playing cricket in India. One has to ensure that their passage remains unobstructed from entering the system till the time they exit.
